In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be Savory Salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life, and ultimately you and I can be Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. 'Remember, remember,' what an amazing phrase to hold at all times in our lives. Welcome to day 261 on our 365 day journey through the Book of Mormon together.

Today, you're going to be reading Helaman chapter 5 verses 1 through 14. And it is a powerful set of verses today and I'm excited to dive into it and share it with you for just a second. You know, it occurred to me today that Helaman chapter 5 mirrored something and I thought, what in the world, what is this for me?

And forgive me for being a little slow on the catch up. Maybe you've already known this, but I'm just catching up here as I continue to read and focus a little bit each day. But Nephi has a moment in Helaman 5 that looks almost exactly like Alma in the beginning of the Book of Alma.

He's trying to do chief judge duties and trying to be a high priest. He's trying to balance the two of these together. The people are not repenting.

They're falling away from the church. And both of them, Alma and Nephi, have a moment at which they choose to put aside their political duties. So, we get this kind of flashback moment where Nephi's telling us the things that his father Helaman taught him and his brother Lehi about.

Coming off very similar to the Book of Alma, almost like it's repeating and giving a message to us. And then we get this kind of flashback moment where Nephi is telling us the things that his father Helaman taught him and his brother Lehi. And inside of these verses we get 'remember, remember, remember.' We've talked in Savory Salt about the power of remembering and today it's going to hit. "And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless woe, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall." This is such!

I got a huge smile on my face. I'm feeling like I can walk through walls right now as I read this verse. And it all starts with us remembering.

My friends, when you're facing the hail storms, when you're facing the whirlwinds and all the difficulties that come inside of our world today, there is power in remembering the times that Christ has been strong in your lives. He is there. You've had those moments.

You have felt the Spirit uplift you. Maybe you've even had spiritual or angelic expressions in your life and moments and times. And in those difficult times, when you feel like you can't do anything else, remembering is the key.

The Bible is just as powerful. It reinvites and reinvigorates our spirit to connect with our Heavenly Father. Prayer is another amazing opportunity that helps us remember as we turn to our Heavenly Father.

And even if you think about the way that prayer works and you're thinking about the things you want to say you're thankful for and share gratitude to Heavenly Father, you are remembering His hand in your life. This verse is such a power verse for me as it helps me to center that my faith lies in Jesus Christ. And through that faith, I sit on a rock, a foundation that is so strong I cannot fail.

I can't fall. I am here with Him and when I turn to Him and I look to Him and I apply His atonement in my life, I stand on solid foundation. What a power verse today.

I hope you feel it as well. That's all for today, my friends. Remember that 'by small and simple things are great things brought to pass.' Keep it small, keep it simple and always seek to be Savory Salt. I'll be here tomorrow and I hope you are too.
