In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Shout out to the mothers today.

Although it's not anywhere near Mother's Day as the timeline of this recording, I got to say this has been a great one for a Mother's Day podcast episode. Welcome to day 244 on our 365 day journey through the Book of Mormon together. Today you're going to be reading Alma chapter 56 verses 41 to 57.

Such a powerful compilation there. And then you're going to dip into Alma chapter 57 verses 1 through 4. Our verse for today is going to come from Alma chapter 56 as we continue the telling from Helaman's point of view of his 2,000 young, also known as stripling warriors.

And in the middle of this moment we have their opportunity to answer the call to battle. And Helaman asks them and says, "Should we do this? Should we go into battle?" And they answer overwhelmingly that yes, we should go.

And then we get to Alma chapter 56 verse 47, a description of these young men. It says, "Now they never had fought, yet they did not fear death; and they did think more upon the liberty of their fathers than they did upon their lives; yea, they had been taught by their mothers, that if they did not doubt, God would deliver them." What a powerful reference here to the power that mothers can play in the lives of their children. I try to imagine the mothers raising these young Ammonites, these young people of Ammon, these boys that are going to grow up to be these warriors.

And I imagine them bearing powerful testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ. I imagine them taking these children and spending intentional time with them teaching gospel principles. I imagine them kneeling with these young men day after day after day and praying to our Heavenly Father to help these young men develop the faith in them.

Today, shout out to you mothers. Keep bearing your testimony to your children, even in the moments when it seems like they're just not listening. Keep testifying of the gospel truths.

My own mother plays a very important part of my life. It's difficult to watch her go through the stages she's going through right now in her life. But I have a firm understanding of her testimony.

That Heavenly Father is real, that He loves me, that I am His child, and that if we do not doubt, God will deliver us as well. If you haven't recently, find your mom, give her a hug, tell her you love her, tell her thank you. If you're a mom, I want to say thank you to you.

If you're a husband, go find your wife. My wife is absolutely the rock of our family. She leads my girls in every aspect of their lives and I am so grateful for her regularly bearing her testimony to them and to me.

She is truly amazing. I promise that as you hold this perspective of mothers and understand the nobility that they help bring into our lives, mothers, you play a divine role in your family. You are amazing and I thank you for the strength that you bring to your families on a daily basis.

That's all for today, my friends. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow and I hope you are too.
