Day 235 Moroni's Warning: A House Divided Cannot Stand

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me. And know that I'm cheering for your every success.

My friends, we've heard directly from our Savior, be one. And if you're not one, you're not mine. I think we get an interesting insight into what might happen when we divide ourselves.

Welcome to day 235 on our 365-day journey through the. Originally, you've got Nephites and Lamanites. Now you have Nephites dividing amongst themselves.

You leave Pahoran and Moroni in this chaos, trying to get everyone unified in order to defend themselves from the Lamanites. And here we see an interesting result of that division. Today we're going to be reading Alma 51:22.

Behold, it came to pass that while Moroni was thus breaking down the wars and contentions among his own people and subjecting them to peace and civilization and making regulations to prepare for war against the Lamanites, behold, the Lamanites had come into the land. Lamanites took advantage of the chaos happening inside of the Nephites. And Moroni is now divided, and a house divided cannot stand.

We know that from history over and over and over again. My friends, the message I read out of this one today is that the adversary thrives in chaos. He doesn't need to have an organized front against you.

All he needs to do is throw anything at you from any direction. He loves it when we, as God's people, are divided amongst ourselves. It creates cracks, and ultimately it leads to losses in our numbers.

How can we better unite ourselves? That's something I'd love you to think into. As I've thought into it, the answer for me seems to continue to clarify but always be quite difficult in it.

The clarity is: Unite under the banner of Jesus Christ. He is our Savior. What does it look like to be like Him?

And yet, interestingly enough, as we all go down the path to try to be more like our Savior, there are times where differences of opinion seem to create different paths on how we're supposed to act and behave. I think that there is great message inside of this and a great warning inside of this. Those of us believers in Jesus Christ, those of us trying to keep our covenants and trying to keep the commandments of the Lord, we need to unite more than we ever have before.

The possibilities of being divided are drastic. They are severe. When we unite and come together under Jesus Christ, we truly live His counsel to be one.

And as such, we become far more able to help each other, be supported in those moments of war and contention with the adversary. be one. And if you are not one, you are not mine. A great example today as we see Moroni take some very serious losses with some cities due to the divisions inside the Nephites.
