In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from, thank you for joining me, and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Do you want to shake the very powers of hell? This is how you do it.
Welcome to day 230 on our 365-day journey through the Book of Mormon together. Thank you for joining me. Today we're reading Alma chapter 48, verses 8 through 25, and I really don't know if there is a better way to do this.
Another conglomerate here of verses that has a laundry list of incredible characteristics. Let's dive straight into today and look at this. We're describing in Alma 48 the characteristics of Moroni and others, by the way, inside of this reading.
And then we get to perhaps one of the most well-known verses describing Moroni. But if you haven't heard it or haven't spent some time in it, let's take a look at it today. We're going to be in Alma 48:17.
It says: Yea, verily, verily, I say unto you, if all men had been and were and ever would be like unto Moroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever. Yea, the devil would never have power over the hearts of the children of men. My friends, I've got an activity for you today.
Did you catch that? If everyone took on these characteristics, but then you pause and you go, 'What are those characteristics?' And that, my friends, is the rest of the reading today. You've got some work to do, and this episode is going to be short because you've got some work to do.
I want you to spend time in these verses and decide for yourself the characteristics that you have or that you want to have to be stronger in the gospel, to be to the level that you could shake the powers of hell the way that Moroni, and we also learn in these verses, Ammon, and the sons of Mosiah, and Alma and his sons, and Helaman. These guys are on the earth at the same time, and Satan's going, 'Whoa!' and he's bringing everything he possibly can. I want to call back just a couple episodes ago.
Do you remember Lehonti? Do you remember him giving in? Come down from the mount!
Come down from the mount! No, no, no, no, no. I'm not going to do it.
And then he gives in and it ultimately leads to his death. This is the antidote, my friends. Here it is.
Pick one. As you go through these verses, pick one characteristic that you want to improve upon. Thank you for watching.
Here's an opportunity to literally take verse by verse the characteristics that you can improve in your life and focus on one that's going to make you stronger. I know there's one there for you. I know there's one there for me.
And before you get overwhelmed and say, 'Ah, there are too many!' Just focus on one. That's where the power is and that's where you will find great traction. I'm so excited for you to do this activity today.
This is worth your time and attention. So I'm going to let you get to it. That's all for today, my friends.
Remember that by small and simple things, like picking one characteristic, are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow and I hope you are too.
