In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life, and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me. I know that I'm cheering for your every success.
My friends, where did Moroni get that kind of confidence? Welcome to Day 223 on our 365-day journey through the Book of Mormon together. Today, you're going to be reading Alma chapter 44, verses 5 through 24.
You will finish that chapter. And this is a lot of dialogue. Our verse for today comes on the very front end of our reading as it is Moroni talking to not just Zerahemnah but all of the Lamanites that have been surrounded in their battle.
And verse 5, Alma 44, verse 5 is part of Moroni's dialogue, and we also, I think, see where in the world Moroni got this level of confidence that just seems so unstoppable. Verse 5 says, "And now Zerahemnah, I command you in the name of that all-powerful God who has strengthened our arms, that we have gained power over you by our faith, by our religion, and by our rites of worship, and by our church, and by the sacred support which we owe to our wives and our children, by that liberty which binds us to our lands and our country; yea, and also by the maintenance of the sacred word of God, to which we owe all our happiness; and by all this most dear unto us." Are you already feeling this? Like, this is only the beginning of his sentence.
Actually, it's kind of the middle of his dialogue here. And yet, let's take a look at this. What builds Moroni's confidence in the heat of battle?
What gives him the ability to stand forward and know that God will support? Well, he gives us a list. It says that God strengthened him.
And how did he strengthen them? By their faith, by their religion, by their rites of worship, the covenants that they have made, by the church, by the sacred support — I love that phrase there — the sacred support which we owe to our wives and our children, the liberty which binds us to our lands and our countries. We are hearing this: Moroni has gathered his confidence by the way that he lives his life.
And I think that's a beautiful reminder for us in the world of chaos that surrounds us. When we can hold to our faith, our religion, our rites of worship, our covenants, when we can, you know, in a sacred way, support our family members, our friends, we have this, and then we have also, by the maintenance of the sacred word of God, which we owe all our happiness. Thank you for watching.
I think that's such a great example that we can see in our own lives in today's world of chaos. Keep your covenants. Make your covenants.
Live in faith. Be a good family member. Remember, seek freedom and liberty to worship the Lord.
And by doing so, you and I together, we can stand in confidence and face the struggles, challenges, and enemies that we face in the world today. That's all for today, my friends. Remember that "by small and simple things are great things brought to pass." Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow, and I hope you are too.
