In Matthew 5.13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family. Wherever you're listening from, thank you for joining me. And know that I am cheering for your every success.
My friends, it is day 200. Congratulations. 200 days is awesome. It's so amazing.
Like, give yourself a pat on the back. Give your friend a pat on the back, your family members. Give them a hug.
Let's celebrate for just a second. What has happened in your life over the last 200 days when it comes to your personal testimony of Jesus Christ? Through your personal engagement and study day after day inside the Book of Mormon.
Today, we're going to continue that by reading Alma chapter 31 verses 8 through 30. We right in the middle of this visit with Alma and the Zoramites They observing a new tradition that the Zoramites have begun And it this interesting once a week tradition of climbing a great tower of sorts and saying a specific prayer and then going home and never speaking, as it says in the scriptures here, never speaking of the Lord again until they return that week. As Alma and his brothers see this, they are quite astonished.
And we get our verse for today inside of Alma 31 verse 23. It says, Now after the people had all offered up thanks after this manner, they returned to their homes, never speaking of their God again until they had assembled themselves together again to the holy stand to offer up thanks after their manner. My friends, I think this comes at a perfect time on our 200 day journey here.
What's happened for you since day one? And I want to share some of my personal experience. I hope that I'm a little bit better than I was day one.
I hope I'm better than I was on day 100 and day 153. And look, I absolutely have my shortcomings. I absolutely have my bad moments, my bad days.
But that's the blessing that repentance comes into play. And what we see here today, I think, is interesting because there are many. We see you next time That describe themselves in the church as physically in and mentally out And they basically just doing what happening here with the Zoramites They attending because they supposed to They're saying the things they're supposed to say.
And then they're on with their lives and never consider having God in their lives throughout the week. But my friends, those of us that have come together and some of you I've never met. I continue to hope for the day where I get to meet anyone that's ever listened to this.
Thanks for listening. Thanks for diving in. But the thing I love the most is what this has done here at Savory Salt for me is created a daily environment for me to try to be better.
It's a chance for me to pause, to pray, and to dive in to the Word of God and see what it means for my life. I hope it's made me a better person with my family and my friends and those that I work I hope I look a little bit more like Jesus Christ today than I did on day one or 50 or 100. That is the blessing the gospel plays.
And this verse here kind of gives us a reminder to hey don just go through the motions Don just do it because you supposed to do it Let this daily study of the Scriptures and let your focus on the Savior change you and help you become a better person I know I'm a flawed individual and I know I make mistakes, but I also know that as I allow my Savior into my life and I allow the Spirit to prompt me, I'm getting directions on what I can do to become a better person And a better follower of Jesus Christ. I hope that Savory Salt has provided a path for you to do that as well. Congratulations on day 200.
Let's finish out the rest of this 365 day journey together, becoming better than we ever thought possible through our study of the scriptures a little bit at a time, day by day. That's all for today, my friends. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass.
Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow and I hope you are too.
