Key Points

  • The episode teaches that God, though capable of all things, frequently chooses to accomplish His miracles through the actions of other individuals.
  • Listeners are encouraged to be open to the promptings of the Spirit, recognizing that they can become instruments of God's will and help bring about miracles in others' lives.
  • The host shares the example of missionaries in the film 'Escape from Germany' to illustrate how divine intervention often manifests through the help of other people, whether they are believers or not.

I want to become a miracle worker. Right. Not in any fallacy-type style. I want to actually be in tune with the Spirit in a way that I can help the Lord bring about miracles on the earth.

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I am cheering for your every success. Welcome to day 182 on our 365-day journey through the Book of Mormon together.

Today, we're going to be reading Alma chapter 20, verses 1 through 22. And inside of that, Ammon and Lamoni are going to shift gears. They're going to establish a church in Lamoni's land.

And then Ammon is going to receive revelation that his brothers are in prison. And that's what takes us to our verse for today. We're going to look at Alma chapter 20, verse 7.

Now Lamoni is very aware that Ammon is fully capable of defending himself. He learned that, right? He learned that the crazy way as the flocks were protected through Ammon and his stone-slinging and his sword-thrashing—all the things, right?

And so Lamoni is very aware of that. And yet we get verse seven here with a really cool offer that I think shows the relationship that's developed between Lamoni and Ammon. Verse seven says, "And he said unto Ammon: Come, I will go with thee down to the land of Middoni, and there I will plead with the king that he will cast thy brethren out of prison." Now, my friends, the Lord is perfectly capable of doing anything that needs to be done in terms of miraculous events.

But I think it's interesting here that Lamoni is going to come into play throughout the story several more times with Ammon. And I think that the Lord's working much of his miracles through Lamoni. The Lord tends to work miracles through other people in our lives.

We, in turn, can also be miracles for somebody else in their lives. As we heed the promptings of the Spirit, we absolutely can help fulfill the Word and the will of God. This got me thinking a little bit about a movie that recently came out, at least here locally.

I don't know if it came out everywhere, but it's called "Escape from Germany". And it is a church—well, it's not produced by the Church, but T. C.

Christensen, he makes a lot of church historical films. And it's a movie about missionaries that are in Germany right before World War II breaks out. And it's the story of these missionaries that need to get out of Germany before Germany invades Poland and World War II begins.

And inside of that movie, there are several instances where the Lord works his miracles to get those missionaries out through other people. Sometimes those other people were other members of the Church, and other times those people were people that simply seemed to act on an impression that they had. I think it's interesting for us because I think we can hone ourselves to be open to those promptings, to be a miracle in somebody else's life.

Lamoni is going to come into play with Ammon and the two of them are going to, spoiler alert, but they're going to go and be able to get Aaron and the others out of prison. I think the Lord knows that there are those that will be open to his promptings and that through them mighty miracles can be brought here on the earth. You and I can be those hands and those eyes for the Lord.

And that's exciting to me. That's an opportunity I want to seek in my life. That's that savory salt that I want to become.

I want to become a miracle worker. Right. Not in any fallacy-type style.

I want to actually be in tune with the Spirit in a way that I can help the Lord bring about miracles on the earth. I hope you have that desire as well. And I know that as you continue to dive into the scriptures, you are opening yourself to the impressions that may very well lead you to be able to be that miracle worker too.

That's all for today, my friends. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow and I hope you are too.
