Show Notes

Discover how God's higher plan brings joy beyond expectation in this reflection on Mosiah 21:30-38 and Mosiah 22. Allen Roberds explores how trusting God can lead to blessings far greater than what we envision for ourselves, using Limhi's people as an example of divine deliverance.

Key Points

  • Allen Roberds reflects on Mosiah 22:14, highlighting how God's plans often surpass human expectations for joy and deliverance.
  • Limhi's people, initially hoping for mere escape and potential servitude to the Nephites, were instead received with open arms and joy by Mosiah.
  • The episode encourages listeners to allow God to 'raise the bar' in their lives, rather than settling for lower, self-imposed expectations.
  • Trusting in the Lord's divine plan can lead to unexpected blessings and outcomes far superior to our own desires.
  • The narrative of Limhi's escape underscores the theme that God knows better than we do when it comes to the plans for our lives.

Allen, Allen, Allen, if you could only see just how setting the bar in our lives and how much that bar could raise if we included the Lord in our plans and let Him take the bar out of our hands and say, 'You know what? Let me show you just how high I can raise the bar in your life.'

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life, and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. I got a big smile on my face today because, you know what?

The Lord knows so much better than we do when it comes to the plans that we make and the ideals that we have for ourselves. The Lord's here to say, "You know what? I've got a better way." And sometimes that way is the way that we planned.

Sometimes it's different. But today's example is one that just gets me smiling because Limhi and his people are going to have kind of a happy ending of sorts, or at least a happy midpoint. Let's take a look at it.

Welcome to Day 134. Today you're going to be reading Mosiah 21, verses 30 through 38. You're going to finish that chapter, and then you're going to read all of Mosiah chapter 22, which is not too long.

It's 16 verses there. Our verse for today is on the tail end of that reading, so you're going to have Limhi and Gideon. We're going to read Mosiah chapter 22, verse 14, for our verse today.

Today it says, "And it came to pass that Mosiah received them with joy; and he also received their records, and also the records which had been found by the people of Limhi." Now, of all the verses to choose, this one's kind of an interesting one, and yet I love it: "It came to pass that Mosiah received them with joy." The reason I love it is if you go back to the beginning thought processes of Limhi when he meets Ammon, and he's thinking about escaping, and he's wondering what that might look like. In his mind, he says something to the effect of, "It would be better for us to be slaves of the Nephites than it would to be under the rule of the Lamanites." You see, Limhi's plan for escape and his future view was, "I would be perfectly happy being a slave of the Nephites if we could get away from the Lamanites here." His view was to get away from the Lamanites and then live his life however he was going to do it. And yet, the Lord knew better.

The Lord knew not only could he help get him away from the Lamanites, but the Lord also knew the heart of Mosiah, and knew that Mosiah... It got me thinking about times in my life where maybe I set the bar low for myself. I set the bar at a stage where I go, "You know what, Lord, I'd just be happy if I could get this level of whatever." And I think sometimes in my life, the Lord's turned around and said, "Allen, Allen, Allen, if you could only see just how setting the bar in our lives and how much that bar could raise if we included the Lord in our plans and let Him take the bar out of our hands and say, 'You know what?

Let me show you just how high I can raise the bar in your life.'" That's all for today, my friends. Remember that "by small and simple things are great things brought to pass." Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow; I hope you are too.
