In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Welcome back to Savory Salt.

We are on day 106 on our 365 day journey through the Book of Mormon. Today, you're going to dive into really some meat and potatoes in Mosiah chapter 2, verses 7 through 8. Let's dive into it.

We are on Mosiah 2:9 today as our verse for the day. It says this, Now this is how King Benjamin starts his address to his people, and I love it. I'm picturing these people coming in.

We learn from the verses just before this that there's so many people. And then there's so many people that they build a tower for King Benjamin to stand on. And then there's so many people that they can't even hear his voice.

And so they're publishing his words and writing them down and causing them to be given to all these people. So there's a lot of people out there. And yet I'm still seeing these people coming that are varying degrees in their own gospel experiences and their own testimonies.

There may be those that came because their friends came and they didn't know what else to do that day. There may be those that came along because their husband or their wife said, "Hey, come on, we're doing this as a family." And they were like, "Okay, I guess I'll come along." Maybe there were those that were teenagers in the crowd and they were there because mom and dad made them gather there. I don't know.

I just picture we're going to hear this large variety of people with varying levels of testimonies. And then King Benjamin says these words to them: "I have not commanded you to come up hither to trifle with the words which I shall speak." He's like, "Hey, this isn't about lukewarm here. This isn't about mediocrity here." I want you to hearken.

And then he gives some specific things to do to hearken. He says, "I want you to hearken unto me; open your ears that you may hear, your hearts that you may understand, and your minds that the mysteries of God may be unfolded to your view." And that's what I want to encourage you to do. That's the challenge I'm going to put in place for me as we dive into these chapters in Mosiah as King Benjamin.

We have his recorded conference talk basically here, right? So, as we go through it, what can I do to open my ears that I can hear the things that King Benjamin is going to teach? What can I do to open my heart that I can better understand?

And what can I do that I can open my mind so that I can learn more about the mysteries of God, that they could be unfolded to my view as I go through King Benjamin's "Address"? That's the challenge I want to leave for you today. So, I'm going to give you a little bit of ponder time here today and make sure that you think in two ways that you can open your ears, open your hearts, and open your minds as we dive into the following chapters of King Benjamin's "Address".

That's all for today, my friends. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow and I hope you are too.
