In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me. And know that I'm cheering for your every success.
And today we wave goodbye as we enter into Day 99. We say thank you for the adventures 1 through 99. Pat yourself on the back.
Tomorrow, you're a centurion as we go through our journey of the Book of Mormon. Well done. This is awesome.
Today we are going to read the second half of Enos chapter 1. And really, you could feel super cool. You're actually going to read half of a book today because Enos is only 1 chapter.
So on our reading today, you're going to read Enos chapter 1, verses 14–27. And just like that, you're going to be done with the book of Enos. And then tomorrow, while you're dealing with your centurion celebrations, you're actually going to be able to read an entire book in 1 day.
So if you thought Enos was great in 2 days, Jarom is going to come up and be done in 1 when we talk about that tomorrow. Let's get to ours today, because today it's about sharing a verse from Enos chapter 1. Inside of verses 14–27, we're going to be looking at verse 15 today.
So let's take a look at it, see what it says. Wherefore, I, knowing that the Lord was able to preserve our records, I cried unto him continually, for he had said unto me, Whatsoever thing ye shall ask in faith, believing that ye shall receive in the name of Christ, ye shall receive it. Now, this is kind of cool because, well, one, Enos is in the middle of telling us that he's really struggling because even though he's prayed for the Lamanites, and even though they've reached out to the Lamanites and tried to do missionary work with the Lamanites, it's just not working.
They are very hard-hearted people. They are not open to discussions about the gospel. And they've actually threatened to, when they kill all the Nephites, right — and their threatenings and their bullyings — they've also threatened to destroy all of the records.
And it's very much concerned Enos to the point that he has prayed about it. The part of the verse that I want to point out here is not so much that he's praying to preserve the records, which is cool. It's the other part.
It's the second half where he's telling us, I cried unto him continually, for he had said unto me, he had said unto me, the Lord had spoken to Enos and given this piece of advice. So this advice comes straight from the Lord, which means we're reading it. We can take that straight from the Lord into our lives.
Whatsoever thing ye shall ask in faith, believing that ye shall receive in the name of Christ, ye shall receive it. Now, in the context of what Enos is dealing with here, I thought about a couple of experiences where my daughters have shared stories with me about challenges they were facing at school. One of them dealing with language in particular.
She was having a hard time with the language around her in the hallways and in the classrooms. Kids simply talk a little bit harsher than we talk in our family, all right? And so she was having a hard time with it.
And she would say quiet prayers at school to help her to either be able to not hear the language or to be able to be in a situation where she would not be around the language or whatever it may be. And she shared with me that she felt that the Lord really had answered that prayer specifically, and that she was able to hear less of the language, or I guess the other way around, she was able to not hear the language that was being said around her that offended the Spirit. I think that this phrase here, this sentence here, directly from the Lord, can work in every aspect of our lives.
It doesn't just have to be areas where we're dealing with bullies or those that are at the Lamanite level that want to kill us and destroy us. I'm going to tell you, as prophets and apostles have told us and testified, I too have found it in my life, that our sincere prayers in the name of Christ will not go unanswered. I do know that the prayers that you pray with sincerity of heart, asking in the name of Christ, you will find an answer for it.
Enos has told us that, and he told us that straight from the Lord who told him that. That's empowering, that's encouraging, and I hope that it changes the way that you approach your prayers and the things that you seek to believe in, to ask in faith, and to receive going forward. That's all for today, my friends.
Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow on Day 100. And I hope you are too.
