Key Points
- Jacob 3:1 outlines profound promises from God to those who are pure in heart, assuring them of divine consolation in afflictions and justice against those who seek their destruction.
- The reflection prompts listeners to consider what steps they can take to develop a pure heart and align their desires and actions with God's will.
- Allen Roberds emphasizes the universal power of Christ's Atonement to uplift and strengthen individuals, no matter where they currently stand on their spiritual path.
- By looking unto God with firmness of mind and praying with exceeding faith, individuals can open themselves to receiving the Lord's promises and blessings.
I think the blessing inside of that is that Christ's Atonement can uplift and strengthen all of us, regardless of where we're at in that spectrum.

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. And today we are on day 89 of our 365-day journey through the Book of Mormon together.
Today on our journey, we're going to read the entire chapter of Jacob chapter 3. Don't worry, when I say entire chapter, it's 14 verses. So we're going to be able to work through that pretty good.
And this is actually, let's take a continuation from our conversation yesterday a little bit. Jacob has to talk about some very difficult things with the people of Nephi after Nephi passed away. Yesterday was that call to action to be better, specifically as a father, but really better as a family member and someone that your family can rely on.
Today's verse is going to be right on the back end of that. It's just that it's going to come from Jacob chapter 3, verse 1. And I want to read that because Jacob is also going to talk to others that are in this audience of listeners a little bit.
And this is what he has to say: "But behold, I, Jacob, would speak unto you that are pure in heart. Look unto God with firmness of mind, and pray unto him with exceeding faith, and he will console you in your afflictions, and he will plead your cause, and send down justice upon those who seek your destruction." This is a very empowering side of things because, first of all, it's a promise to those that are pure in heart. There's a promise associated here that God is going to console you, right?
Pray unto him with exceeding faith, and he will console you in your afflictions. He's going to plead your cause, and he's going to send down justice upon those who seek your destruction. There's a promise to the pure in heart here.
The second thing I love about this verse is it makes me say to myself, what can I do to make sure that I'm on the pure in heart side of things that Jacob's talking to, rather than the call to repentance side that he's talking to? Who are these pure in heart? Am I one?
And if not, how can I develop the pure in heart in my life? How can I take on the desires and the wants of those that are pure in heart? Because that's who I want to be.
And I think that's where Christ's Atonement comes into play for all of us. We may find ourselves in different parts of Jacob's preaching throughout our lives. We may be on the side of things where we've lost the confidence of family members or friends.
Or we may be on the side of things where we find ourselves pure in heart and truly wanting to be better in everything we're doing. I think the blessing inside of that is that Christ's Atonement can uplift and strengthen all of us, regardless of where we're at in that spectrum. And if you read through chapter 3, he continues to talk more about the pure in heart and the blessings that come.
And I love that. I love that aspect for me today and, hopefully for you today, just a little opportunity to ponder on the idea of what I can do more to be pure in heart in my own life. What desires can I change inside of my thoughts and my actions that will qualify me to open up to the promise that the Lord gives here through Jacob in Jacob chapter 3, verse 1.
Something to think about, something to spend some time in. That's all for today, my friends. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass.
Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow. I hope you are too.
