In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me. And know that I'm cheering for your every success.
We have come to Day 86 on our 365-day journey through the Book of Mormon together. And today we enter in, I guess we sort of did a little bit yesterday with two verses, but I told you you could push it to today. Welcome to the Book of Mormon.
So let's take a look at that. Today you're going to read Jacob chapter 1, verses 3 through 19. And if you saved verses 1 and 2 to carry over into here, basically you're just going to read Jacob chapter 1.
So that's our reading for today. And other than a couple of chapters inside Jacob here, we're actually just going to focus kind of Jacob on a chapter-by-day basis, just a little bit. Chapter two will be split, and then three, four, we'll have singular chapters there.
Our verse for today is going to dive in on the front end of Jacob chapter 1. And it's going to give us a little bit of the view of what Jacob's trying to do. He's trying to obey the directive of Nephi in terms of what he's putting in these plates.
Verse 4 gives us some insight as to how he's approaching that. And by the way, verses 1 through 4 or 5 or so really are going to give you some insight there. But verse 4 is our verse for today.
Let's take a look at it. And if there were preaching which was sacred, or revelation which was great, or prophesying that I should engrave them upon these plates, and touch upon them as much as it were possible, for Christ's sake and for the sake of our people. I love this because this tells us in the Book of Jacob that at least through the lens of he is going to give you what he considers to be the most precious information.
And that lens is very important as we dive into the next couple of chapters of Jacob. Because it's telling us that even though Jacob is a small book overall, in the grand scheme of the Book of Mormon, he's giving us the best of the best and he's doing it so that we can see what is sacred, what's been revealed that was great, what was prophesied upon, and he's going to do it so that we better understand Christ's sake and the sake of our people. And it got me thinking, for you and for me, what do you do with your most precious information in your life?
How do you share that with your family or your friends? How do you make sure that it passes on from just you holding on to that precious information? Maybe that's bearing your testimony or maybe it's an opportunity to write it down or record it somewhere.
I want you to kind of dig into that a little bit and see what that means for you personally as Jacob took some time to really consider what was most precious for him and his people. And I want you to see what that means for you as you look in your life about what is most precious for you and how you make sure that your loved ones receive that information as well. So I am very excited to dive into the Book of Jacob, and he has some incredible teachings coming over the next couple of days.
Stick with it. We're going to have a great time going through Jacob. And yes, Jacob 5 is coming up.
That's the monster. But we're going to do it together. We're going to do it through small and simple steps.
And by now, you know exactly what I'm talking about there. That's all I have for today, my friends. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass.
Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow. I hope you are too.
