Show Notes

Allen Roberds reflects on 2 Nephi 13, highlighting verse 10: "Say unto the righteous that it is well with them, for they shall eat the fruit of their doings." This episode explores the profound principle of reaping what you sow, encouraging listeners to examine their daily choices and the 'seeds' they plant to cultivate the desired 'fruits' in their lives.

Key Points

  • The episode examines 2 Nephi 13, acknowledging its warnings about wickedness but emphasizing the hope offered to the righteous in verse 10.
  • 2 Nephi 13:10 assures the righteous that they will receive positive outcomes, or "eat the fruit of their doings," as a result of their actions.
  • Allen Roberds prompts listeners to deeply consider the implications of the 'fruit of their doings' and whether they truly desire the consequences of their current choices.
  • The reflection encourages listeners to proactively 'plant seeds' of kindness, humanity, and other positive actions to intentionally cultivate the desired fruits in their lives.
  • It emphasizes the importance of deliberate choices in daily interactions and spiritual growth, connecting actions to their eventual rewards.

In your pursuit of considering the fruits that you want in your life, I'm going to ask you to consider what seeds you're putting in the ground before you worry about what fruit you're going to get in the first place.

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success and welcome to Day 60. Oh man, we are rolling ahead with our Isaiah chapters.

Today on your 365-day journey through the Book of Mormon, you're going to read all of 2 Nephi chapter 13. That's 26 verses, and honestly, they're not really too long. So welcome into that reading today.

Our verse today, I've got to be honest, I really wanted to do two verses today, but what I'm going to do is kind of cheat a little bit. I'm going to do one verse and then tell you the other side of the coin is the next verse. And that's okay.

Our verse today is verse 10. And verse 10 is actually kind of one little beam of light in the middle of what's kind of a dark chapter in terms of the punishment of the wicked, right? This is a section where Isaiah is going to say.

And so this chapter gets pretty heavy inside of all of the punishments and consequences that are coming. And yet we have this beam of light, or at least a little bit of light here in verse 10. Let's read it and see what it says.

Say unto the righteous that it is well with them, for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. I love that one. Now, I told you the second half of that is verse 11.

I'm going to let you read it. I'm going to stay true to the idea here that we're just going to do one verse inside of Savory Salt every day. But I love this one because what I learned here is, "Look, folks, we reap what we sow.

We're going to eat the fruit of our doings." And it got me thinking a little bit: Do I want to eat the fruit of my doings? Right? Allen goes out into the world, and I make my choices each day.

We talked about those choices yesterday about making some choices that draw us into the light of the Lord. But do I want to eat the fruit of my doings? Do I want to eat the fruit of how I act and speak with others in the world?

I had times in my life that have been successful because my response was an attempt to sow the fruit that I was looking for. I was going to treat someone with kindness; I was going to treat someone with humanity in the hopes and attempts that I might get some kindness and humanity returned to me. So in your pursuit of considering the fruits that you want in your life, I'm going to ask you to consider what seeds you're putting in the ground before you worry about what fruit you're going to get in the first place.

That's all for today, my friends. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be Savory Salt.

I'll be here tomorrow. I hope you are too.
