Show Notes

Join Allen Roberds for a reflection on 2 Nephi 1:25-32, exploring the story of Zoram and the profound principle that divine blessings are bestowed through obedience and faithfulness, not ancestral bloodlines. This episode emphasizes how keeping covenants and commandments can unlock prosperity and favor for anyone, irrespective of their family connections, just as Zoram received the same promises as Lehi's direct descendants.

Key Points

  • Lehi promised Zoram and his seed lasting blessings and prosperity for their faithfulness and willingness to keep God's commandments (2 Nephi 1:25-32).
  • The Lord extends divine blessings to all who are willing to make and keep covenants with Him, regardless of their family background or blood connection.
  • Zoram's pivotal decision to trust Nephi led to a tight friendship and allowed him to receive the same blessings as if he were a direct family member of Lehi.
  • Allen Roberds reflects on personal experiences of feeling like an 'outsider' and finds empowerment in the truth that worthiness through obedience, not lineage, determines God's blessings.

I love this because I've been a Zoram in the world. There's been times where I'm not in the family, so to speak. But I know that I'm trying to keep the commandments of the Lord. I'm doing my best. I'm trying to keep my covenants. The Lord is going to bless me based on that worthiness rather than based on any sort of blood connection or family line.

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I am cheering for your every success. We are on day 41 of our 365 day journey together, reading the Book of Mormon a little bit each day.

And today, as you're reading along, you're going to read from 2 Nephi 1:25-32. This is Lehi talking to Zoram. Wherefore, because thou hast been faithful, thy seed shall be blessed with his seed, that's Nephi's seed, that they dwell in prosperity long upon the face of this land, and nothing, save it shall be iniquity among them, shall harm or disturb their prosperity upon the face of this land forever.

This is such an awesome scripture, folks. This is Zoram. Zoram, not part of the family.

I can tell you there been times in my life where I know I'm not part of the family, quote-unquote, right? Like I'm doing air quotes here, 'the family.' I don't feel like I'm in the group. Zoram had to make a life decision in an instant and either trust Nephi or not trust Nephi.

And he trusted. And we see in verse 30 that he becomes a true friend of Nephi forever. Super tight friendship there!

That's awesome. And then Lehi, because of Zoram's willingness to keep the commandments, because of Zoram's willingness to make covenants with the Lord, he gets the same blessings from Lehi as if he were in the family. The Lord extends those same blessings to any and all that keep the commandments.

Any and all that are willing to make covenants with him.

This is so empowering to me because Zoram receives all of the blessings of the family of Lehi and he does it through the ability for him to choose to keep the commandments of God. We all have that choice and we can all be receivers of those blessings from the Lord without needing to have any sort of other connection to who you know or what your bloodline is or what.

We'll be right back. And if you're new to the podcast, please subscribe so you can keep up with the weekly news. And remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass.

Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow. I hope you are too.
