In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. We are into day 26, and day 26 brings up for us on our 365-day journey, 1 Nephi chapter 16, verses 1 through 19.

We're going to get into some fun stuff here. The story is going to start with the story of 1 Nephi moving again. Nephi and his family are going to be moving through the wilderness.

We're going to have different activities and adventures there. And that takes us to our verse for the day, verse 5. I love this one.

It says, "And it came to pass that they had humbled themselves before the Lord, insomuch that I had joy and great hopes of them, that they would walk in the paths of righteousness." This is Nephi talking about his brothers and such. And they have a moment here of repentance and humility. They seek to repent and try to be better.

The thing I love about this one is I love how genuinely Nephi is cheering for his brothers to grow in faith. He has joy and great hopes for them. And I think that's such a great example for us.

Nephi sees the challenges that his brothers are facing. He's been—I mean, think about some of these challenges for a second. He's been beaten, right?

He's been struck with sticks and stones, and he's going to be tied up, and he's going to have attempted murder, right? I mean, his brothers are not easy people to live with. Nephi sees them repent and genuinely is cheering for them to grow in faith.

You know, it's so interesting. I've seen this: Missionaries cheer for the people that they teach and the challenges that they face. Parents cheer for their kids and try to help their children find the gospel and their testimonies in the gospel.

Friends cheer for their friends in the gospel. I want to encourage you: find those who genuinely cheer for your success in the gospel. In the personal development world, there's a common concept that says that you're the average of the five people you spend the most time with.

Well, who are you spending time with? What's the environment like? What kind of conversations do you have?

Do you dive into your faith? Do you dive into the gospel at all? Is that an awkward topic?

We'll be right back. Come join us! Come be in a community of people that are seeking to find Christ, seeking to live in Christ and to have that joy of Christ in our lives.

I love how much Nephi is genuinely cheering for his brothers to grow in faith here. And I hope you can feel that I am genuinely cheering for your faith journey as well. Stick to the Lord.

Find those who will support you in your decisions as you grow in the gospel. That's all I have for today, my friends. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass.

Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow. I hope you are too.
