Show Notes

Allen Roberds explores 1 Nephi 13:30-42, focusing on Nephi's vision of plain and precious truths being removed from the Bible and their restoration through additional sacred records like the Book of Mormon. This episode discusses how these latter-day scriptures establish the Bible's truth and powerfully testify of Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world.

Key Points

  • Nephi's vision in 1 Nephi 13:30-42 prophesies the removal of "plain and precious truths" from the Bible, causing widespread spiritual confusion.
  • The episode discusses how "last records," such as the Book of Mormon and modern-day revelation, were foreseen to restore these lost truths.
  • These additional scriptures are intended to establish the truth of the Bible, amplify its message, and complete the understanding of God's plan.
  • Ultimately, the restoration of these truths clarifies that Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God, the Son of the Eternal Father, and the Savior of the world.

These are here to amplify the Bible. These are here to complete the Bible, to put it together, and ultimately testify that Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God, the Son of the Eternal Father, and the Savior of the world.

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life, and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me, and know that I'm cheering for your every success. And shout out to you.

Today is Day 21. Three weeks. Look how far you've come in three weeks just by doing a little bit every day.

Well done. Thanks for joining me along this ride for the last three weeks. We're going to continue on the energy that we had yesterday inside of 1 Nephi chapter 13.

So if you're following along with me on the 365-day journey of reading the Book of Mormon a little bit each day, today you would read 1 Nephi 13 verses 30 through 42. Just 12 verses. It finishes out the chapter of 13, but the verses are a little bit hefty.

They got some length to them, but still, this is an awesome kind of second part to the first part that we had yesterday, talking a little bit about the plain and precious things being taken from the Bible. We're going to dive straight into our verse today with verse 40 because this continues this thought that we started talking about yesterday. Verse 40 says, "And the angel spake unto me, saying: These last records which thou hast seen among the Gentiles shall establish the truth of the first, which are of the twelve apostles of the Lamb, and shall make known the plain and precious things which have been taken away from them, and shall make known to all kindreds, tongues, and people that the Lamb of God is the Son of the Eternal Father and the Savior of the world, and that all men must come unto him or they cannot be saved." Wow, there's a lot in that one, and there's a lot inside of the second half of this chapter.

If you're doing the history thing for just a second, see if you can find things like confusion and maybe even apostasy happening because the plain and precious things are lost, or maybe even the restoration of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Maybe you can even find inside this chapter the coming of Jesus Christ himself to all peoples of the earth. But going back to specifically verse 40, you know, these last records that Nephi sees, one of them, I think, at least the way that I read it, is actually the Book of Mormon.

Nephi's seeing the book that he's sitting here writing a record of; he's seeing the Book of Mormon testify and help restore the lost plain and precious truths that got taken out of the Bible. And there are these last records; it's plural. There are other records.

And we have things like the Doctrine and Covenants, as well as modern-day revelation that we see as a path for us to better understand the things that have been lost or taken from the Bible. And ultimately, these are going to work hand in hand together. As it says here, "it shall establish the truth of the first." These are here to amplify the Bible.

These are here to complete the Bible, to put it together, and ultimately testify that Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God, the Son of the Eternal Father, and the Savior of the world. Man, I hope you're loving this chapter as much as I am. And I hope you're loving the vision that Nephi is having here.

He is seeing some incredible things. We'll talk more about it as we continue that vision tomorrow. But that's all I have for today.

Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow. I hope you are too.
