In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life, and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. We are on to Day Four.
And for those of you that perhaps skipped Day Two and Three, because I told you you could maybe go back and listen to those. Those are some good sections on the testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith. But today we actually dive into scripture verses.
These are verses right out of the Book of Mormon. And if you're following along on the pacing of reading the Book of Mormon over the next 365 days, then Day Four is going to take you into First Nephi chapter one, verses one through 14. So, not hefty reading if you're doing this on the year thing—that's the whole idea, right?
But today we're going to look at a verse inside of First Nephi chapter one, verses one through 14, that reading assignment. Now the verse that I want to dive into today is actually a really, really short one, but the thought that comes behind it is one that I get kind of excited about. So the verse we're going to look at today is verse 12 in chapter one, and it's talking about Lehi, who's Nephi's dad.
We learn about Nephi and Lehi a little bit through this, but you're going to find that out as you read it. But check this out. Verse 12, it says, 'And it came to pass that as he read, he was filled with the Spirit of the Lord.' I think that's a great thought to kind of hold on to when you're looking at actions have consequences and the ideas around them.
I don't necessarily think that you need to look at every action as a good or a bad consequence. Sometimes actions just have consequences, neither good nor bad. They're just: we do this, and then this happens.
Our life is full of 'if this, then this.' And so the thought that I have for you today is: as you laugh with your friends or your family, as you serve others, see what things happen. I love the phrase 'as he [fill in the blank], he was [fill in the blank]' because it tells us that as we do these things, these things are going to come afterwards. Our actions absolutely have consequences.
So that's all I have for today. Remember that 'by small and simple things are great things brought to pass.' Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow. I hope you are too.
