In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from, thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Welcome to day one. Day one of what, you may ask?
Well, today is the beginning of an adventure. I want to invite you to come along with me. You see, my daughters are interested in reading the it's really not a lot of reading every day.
It's almost like small and simple things are accomplishing greater things ahead. Well, welcome to day one. Day one, where we share.
Now, you say, "Wait a second, the Title Page? I didn't know the Book of Mormon had a Title Page!" Well, that's exactly the point of diving into Savory Salt a little bit and take a look at this. I want to reflect for just a second.
I had a professor in college when I was at BYU that gave us a reading assignment and we came in and it was several chapters of the front end of the book. It was right at the beginning of the class. And he sat down, he said, "All right, all right, everyone, get out a piece of paper.
It's time for the quiz." And he asked us, I don't know, four or five questions, but you know what was interesting about the quiz? Every one of the questions came from the Introduction of the book. And his lesson for us was, "When I told you to read these beginning chapters, how many of you spent time in the Introduction?" And our answer was, "None of us.
We didn't spend any time in the Introduction. We went straight to the chapters." The Title Page of the Book of Mormon was written by Mormon, and it's super cool. It included in here to tell us exactly what the Book of Mormon is doing.
So, my one verse today and one thought today actually comes straight off of the Title Page of the Book of Mormon. If someone were to ask you and say, "What is the Book of Mormon? What's its purpose?
Like, what is it even accomplishing?" Well, you could take them to the Title Page and not even have to go any further. You see, the Title Page tells us, here's the little verse section if you're looking at it. It says, "Jesus Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting Himself unto all nations." Let's take a moment to pray.
Let's say, "Oh, nothing. Nothing comes to mind." Pause and let that sink in for a second. Also know that the Book of Mormon is here to help us remember that there are covenants to make with the Lord.
And finally, if 3 Nephi 11 doesn't come to mind, that's okay. If we're just brand new to the Book of Mormon, that's okay. But understand that the Book of Mormon is here to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile, Jesus is the Christ, and that He does manifest Himself unto all nations.
I am so excited to dive in with you. And today, if you read the Title Page, the Introduction and "The Testimony of the Three Witnesses," you will be on pace to accomplish reading the Book of Mormon over the next 365 days. That's all for today, my friends.
Remember that "By Small and Simple Things Are Great Things Brought to Pass." Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow. I hope you are too.
